Finding a decent Italian restaurant in Wichita Falls can be pretty difficult once of the novelty of endless breadsticks from our resident franchise Italian restaurant wears off. Luckily the search for homemade Italian food can be temporarily called off because Mia’s Italian Bistro on Beverly Drive is serving up classic dishes from fettuccine Alfredo to homemade pizzas.
When I walked into Mia’s I instantly felt warm and welcomed. The lighting in the restaurant was dimmed with beautiful Italian music playing, allowing me to embrace the Italian dining culture, and the decorative flowers and glass-top tables with candles on each of them helped bring the ambiance together.
The waitress took my drink order and returned with my soda and a basket of fresh rolls. The rolls were brushed with a garlic butter sauce and baked to perfection. When I tore them apart they looked picturesque, like they were from a commercial: steam released from the soft inside, and the smell created a joyful experience, making me think back to tearing apart the homemade rolls my mother would bake.
After a few minutes the waitress returned and took my order. I went with the “Mia’s Special Roll” and a house salad. Normally a house salad wouldn’t be anything special, but they were generous with the portions. They served the mountain of lettuce on a large, cold dinner plate. As for the quality of the salad, the lettuce was cut fresh. The leaves were crisp and smothered with creamy ranch dressing.
The roll was loaded with pepperoni, sausage and onions, and it was packed with fresh mozzarella cheese. Every bite was an amazing combination of perfectly cooked and sliced pepperoni and sausage, followed by a stretched-out trail of mozzarella cheese—again like the commercials. I could really taste the freshness of the cheese. It didn’t have the dry, overcooked feel and taste that happens at some restaurants. The roll does not look big but be aware that it was very filling.
The service provided by the waitress was outstanding. She went above and beyond to ensure I had a great time at Mia’s. Throughout my meal she always kept my glass full and made sure I had everything I needed.
The combination of the salad and the Mia’s Special Roll was the perfect amount of food for dinner. The price was a perfect amount as well for the quality of food and service I received, coming out to $17 with tip.
Mia’s also serves a great selection of white, red and sparkling wines. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great place for a date or anyone, like me, who has been searching for a good Italian restaurant.
