Masks no longer required on campus effective immediately
Tuesday, May 18, Midwestern State University President Suzanne Shipley announced via Postmaster that masks would no longer be required on campus effective immediately due to an executive order by Texas governor Greg Abbott.
Abbott’s executive order bans public schools and local governments from requiring face masks. The order will go into effect Friday, May 21 at 11:59 p.m. but public schools are being allowed to continue requiring masks until June 4 if they choose.
Despite the change, the Postmaster encouraged those who are not vaccinated to continue to maintain social distancing and wear a mask. Shipley also reminded Mustangs to be mindful and respectful of their peers whether they choose to wear a mask or not.
