As students put their final touches on their costumes, and a local retailer sees its busiest time of the year, Wicked Andy’s Scare Shop co-owner Chad Lagunas says this year the popular costumes have gone back to the classics.
“The most popular this year is probably ninja turtles, ninja turtles they were back in my day, back in the ’80s and the early ’90s and they revised them, and we can’t keep them on the shelves,” Lagunas said.
Another popular costume this year has been zombies, but Lagunas says these costumes aren’t bought but made, however the material to add the gore has been flying off the shelves.
“Not so much as the zombie costumes, people like to make their own zombie costumes, but as far as the prosthetics, latex, make-up, and all the accessories that’s what’s been really hot sellers for us,” Lagunas said.
Like Lagunas mentioned some people prefer to make their own costumes. Business student Billy Hornisher and Kinesiology student Coby Smith took that route and this is what they came up with.
“We’re SBB’S, part of the association snuggling bachelor bears. We like to snuggle, and we’re bachelors, and we’re bears,” Hornisher said. “Snuggle bears,” Smith said.
The snuggling bachelor bears weren’t the only ones with their costumes prepped for the upcoming holiday. I also ran into some retired hooters girls, a Miss Camille Toe, and someone dressed as a marine. All in all these costumes did not lack in creativity.
