The Wichitan’s Christmas playlist
Christmas is lurking around the corner with Christmas lights already going up and Christmas songs in rotations at stores and with the semester at an end and the winter break fast approaching, the Wichitan share their favorite Christmas songs and why. Merry Christmas and a happy New Years from the Wichitan.
Anne Akpabio | “O Holy Night” – Celine Dion
“It is my favorite song because it holds childhood memories.
Joey Arthur | “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” – Tyler the Creator
“I am a fan of Tyler the Creator and I am a huge fan of the 2000 movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and the 2018 Animated movie “The Grinch.” The first time I heard this song, it perfectly reminded me why I love The Grinch and Christmas.
Tiffany Haggard | “Carol of the Bells” – Trap City
“It is the best Christmas song of all time. It is a great combination of a classic and straight fire”
Thalia Doe | “Pa’ La gente Panameña” – Cheo Feliciano
“This is my favorite Christmas songs because it brings me memories of my country and my family when I’m away from them during the holidays”
Rebekah Gardner | “Christmas Song” – Phoebe Bridgers
“It’s a sadder twist on Christmas, but I love how earnest the lyrics are.”
Cecil Witherspoon | “Christmas Eve (Sarajevo)” – Savatage
“This is my favorite Christmas song because it doesn’t have annoying Christmas ‘lyrics’
Stephanie Robledo | “Hoy Vi a Santa Claus Besar a Mamá – Los Mier
“This song is the Spanish version of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” This is the version I grew up listening to. Despite the child’s vocals, I like it because it’s nostalgic and it’s a story.
Omar Combie | “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” – KING & COUNTRY
“It’s one of the Christmas songs I grew up with. It reminds me of what Christmas is truly about. Plus, this version is just great.
Abby Jones | “White Winter Hymnal” – Fleet Foxes
“Fleet Foxes is my favorite band right now and I love how they took a winter vibe and made it fresh. It sounds like something you could chant while walking through the forest.”
Colin Stevenson | “The Pie Carols: VI. Rhubarb Pie” – The Texas Boys Choir
“I was in the Texas Boys Choir and it was one of the few Christmas songs we would often perform that didn’t get old quickly.”
Adrian Robledo | “El Burrito Sabanero” – La Rondallita
“El Burrito Sabanero” is my favorite Christmas song because it was one of the songs I sang with my family during Las Posadas.”
A. Defore | “Utae Jingle Bell” – One Piece
“For all those anime fans out there, or those who are sick of the same old Christmas music. This ones for you.”
