“Returning to a normal season with no COVID restrictions is a blessing. Personally, I haven’t had a real season since 2019. We have all been waiting years for this moment and we are ready to give it all we got. The spring season we had last semester, helped me become a better player and has helped prepared me for the real deal,” Escobar said.

Escobar scored his first goal of the season against Rockhurst University on Sept. 4. He says that hopefully, this goal is just the beginning of many more to come this season.

“This year I feel physically and technically better. I’m locked in and ready to help the team; scoring a goal is a feeling that beats everything…my teammates always make it easy for me to get on the score sheet. Hopefully, it’s the first goal of lots this season,” Escobar said.

Lastly, Escobar says the goal this year is to get the national title; he believes that they have the right players and coaches to get the job done.

“The long-term goal is the national title, I believe we have the right players and coaches to get it done. It will just take a lot of hard work and commitment. The most important thing is to win and I’m ready to play my part in helping the team,” Escobar said.

Carlos Vargas (No.3), defender and finance senior, says that playing for a trophy gives a different aspect to playing that the team has been wanting.

“I am very excited to finally be playing a normal season. Playing for a trophy gives a different competitive edge our team had been itching for… I’ve grown both on and off the field….Off the field, I am constantly learning and absorbing everything I can about life. On the field I’m learning differently, I am becoming a more mature and disciplined as a player,” Vargas said.

Vargas was named one of the Lonestar conference players the week, the week of Sept. 7, he says that although winning the award made him happy – the team winning the game that week, made him happier.

“It made me extremely happy to receive the award, although it’s very premature. It made me even happier that our team came out with six points in our first two away games. Both of these games were played in 100+ degree weather and we were all still able to perform even with people’s cleats melting; so that was definitely the highlight,” Vargas said.

Vargas said this season he is trying to stay consistent on and off the field so he can contribute to the team’s ultimate goal of winning the NCAA national final.

This past Wednesday the men’s soccer team won 3-0 against Lubbock Christian on our home fields.
