On Feb. 26 both the women’s and the men’s basketball teams played against Sul Ross States.
The women’s basketball team won with a score of 96-60. The men’s basketball team lost with a score of 64-80.
In the first quarter of the women’s basketball game, the women scored 14 baskets with sophomore guard Calyssa Sevier making almost half the baskets for the quarter. The first quarter ended with a score of twenty two to seventeen.
In the second quarter,the women only scored 12 baskets with sophomore forward Kerbie cash making a third of the baskets during the quarter. At the end of the second quarter the score was 48-29.
The women made the least amount of baskets in the third quarter. They scored 10 baskets and ended the quarter 66-45.
The women did not back down in the fourth quarter. They made 15 total baskets with Sevier and Cash making four baskets each. At the end of the night, the women won the game 96 to 60.
The men started their game strong, scoring 2 points in the first two minutes. Sul Ross State quickly followed this with a successful 3-pointer.
At the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs were tied with Sul Ross State 16-16.
Within the first minute of the second quarter, the Mustangs scored four more points. However, during the Mustangs lost their lead and ended the half 35-27.
Throughout the second half, the Mustangs tried but never made up the distance. The men’s team ended the game 80-64.
MSU alumn Caroline Truelove never went to games due to stress of her classes, but now that she has graduated, she wants to go to more games to support MSU.
Education freshman Taquirra Liggins has come to games before but she felt more engaged because she felt more energy from players. Liggins said she could feel the pressure the men’s basketball team had on them due to the women’s team winnings.
