Twelve vocal performance majors performed “Some Enchanted Evening,” a review of Rogers and Hammerstein songs from musicals such as “The Sound of Music” and “Oklahoma,” on March 6 – 7 in Akin Auditorium.

While the performances went off without a hitch, the cast and crew said there were many road blocks along the way.

“We’re talking huge productions, but every single song is taken out of context,” said Erin Sherry, the show’s choreographer.

In addition to fitting the songs together, vocal performance graduate Zack Brasfield said inclement weather cut into a lot of rehearsal time.

“It was two full rehearsals,” Brasfield said. “Last week we started going from about 6:30 p.m. to about 10 p.m. You look at that and that’s almost 10 hours of rehearsal gone.”

But in the end, students said they were happy to perform and get the chance to work with a live musician.

“It’s great having a live musician because they can follow you if you want to slow down a part or express a part rather than having to stick strictly to what the recorded music is,” said Cody Thomas, vocal performance senior.
