Moonlight Stampede to support Crime Stoppers from MWSU Campus Watch on Vimeo.
Mustangs Moonlight Stampede, a campus walk designed to increase awareness about drug usage and to raise money for MSU Crime Stoppers, will be April 24.
Elwyn Ladd, police officer, says Midwestern State and 13 other campuses in Wichita, Archer and Clay counties have Campus Crime Stoppers.
“Calls on campus are really, pretty slow,” Ladd says.
Sponsorships and handing out fliers are ways campus police officers have been spreading the word about the fundraiser. They also are selling shirts for $12. Proceeds help pay people who call in tips.
“Last year we sold 267 T-shirts. So far this year we haven’t hit a hundred yet,” Ladd says.
Ladd says at the walk that begins at 6 p.m. at Sikes Lake Walking Track, officers will have food, displays on the continued use of drugs. Some of the local high schools will set up booths. Officers have also talked to different vendors that may come to the event, including law-enforcement agencies and first responders from Wichita, Archer and Clay counties.
