Members of the softball team rallied together for a fundraiser to support North Central Texas College after four of that school’s softball team members were killed in a motor vehicle accident in late September.
Wearing NCTC shirts, bracelets, wristbands, and ribbons to show support, softball players recognized the struggles the NCTC players are facing at the game against Navarro College Oct. 10. Eight survivors of the wreck attended the game and released four balloons in honor of those students killed.
“Each balloon had a number of a player that had passed away, so we let the NCTC players that came to the game release them,” sophomore catcher Kara Tilton says.
Softball players sold more than 300 T-shirts and bracelets and players have been taking donations to give to the NCTC softball team.
Emily Lasky, sophomore catcher, says she knows two of the players from NCTC softball team, one who did not travel with the team due to an injury and the other who is still in the hospital.
“It makes us appreciate each other more as a team. We don¹t take things for granted. We appreciate the time that we have with each other on and off the field because it could be gone at any second,” Lasky says.
Team members don’t yet know how much money they’ve raised.
