The football team survived a slow start against Eastern New Mexico University in the Lone Star Conference Football Festival on Saturday night, picking up the pace in the second quarter to win 42-17.
Dominique Rouse kick started the offensive run with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
MSU scored the next three touchdowns, first from a 52-yard pass from Jake Glover to Statron Jones.
“We got the chance to make big plays,” said head coach Bill Maskill in the post-game conference.
Glover connected with Levy Wilson for a 74-yard touchdown pass before halftime.
Early in the third quarter Glover and Jones connected again, this time for a 68-yard touchdown pass, bringing Jones to 127 yards on the night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Eastern New Mexico was able to make one last touchdown with a 12-yard run from D’Maujeric Tucker.
MSU scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter with a 35-yard run from Chaucey Harris and a 46-yard run from Adrian Seales to end the game.
The team’s next game is Sept. 27 at Tarleton State University.
