Graduate school officials organized an open house as an attempt to increase the awareness of the opportunities and programs they provide.
“I noticed that our enrollment has been flat in the past years so I started looking at ways that we can engage with our communities and let them know about the wonderful programs we have to offer,” Dr.Deborah R. Garrison, Dean of the Graduate School said.
The graduate school offers 25 different masters programs as well as professional programs and allows students to interact with the graduate coordinators and representatives. The graduate coordinators gave specific details to students about the programs and what they should expect.
“It just gives them an opportunity to learn about graduate school and then to meet up with the graduate coordinators so they can establish that one on one connection that helps them decide if this is the graduate program that they want,” Garrison said.
Future graduate student, Douglas Ray, believes that the open house is a good way to become informed on MSU’s graduate programs.
“I graduated may of 13 so I’m a pretty recent graduate, it took me a while to get the bachelors degree. The open house was very informative, they gave the large presentation in the classroom, that was informative and the different coordinators got up and said a few things about their programs and answered quite a few of my questions during that session,” Ray said.
