Moffett library not open 24 hours during finals from MWSU Campus Watch on Vimeo.
While Christmas decorations are going up students are buckling down. With finals coming up next week many students are hitting the books to prepare for their tests. Due to the limited number of hours the library is open during the week students in sororities and fraternities planned to take shifts and keep the library open overnight for the next two weeks, but due to lack of volunteers the project fell through.
Nursing student Candace McFadden said she thinks the extra hours could’ve been helpful for students who prefer to study at night or students whose schedules don’t allow them to study during the day.
“Putting in an extra hour or those three extra hours you know may be what you need to pass your tests so it could be really helpful for them,” McFadden says.
Brittanie Tullous a member of panhellenic sorority Sigma Kappa says that while she does think some students could use the extra time she doesn’t think those outside the Greek community were expecting the extra hours.
“Last year on finals week the majority of the students I saw were Greek students in there 24/7. I don’t know if the whole student body knew about it as well as we did but maybe a few or a certain percentage were probably expecting it,” Tullous says.
Tullous attributed the lack of volunteers to confusion among the Greek community about how to sign up.
“We had people try to sign up. I’m pretty sure some girls from my sorority tried to sign up but I personally just didn’t know how, and I didn’t really hear anyone talking about it except for at one meeting,” Tullous says.
