Students involved in undergraduate research presented their projects in the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum Nov. 22.
Hundreds of students and faculty attended the all-day event, surprising some of the presenters at the event in Clark Student Center.
Junior in radiology Rachel Whatley said, “It was more than I expected, before our presentations started we had crowds around our posters, so it’s been a pretty positive experience as far as the response we’ve gotten from others.”
Some of the groups didn’t take long to come up with a topic for their project.
“Our mentor, Beth, she already had the idea in mind because we went from film radiography to digital radiography and she wanted to know how much the factors effect patient does, exposure numbers and optimal images,” senior in radiology Samantha Brownwell said.
While most presenters are involved in Undergraduate Research, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Summer Workshop or Enhancing Undergraduate Research Creative Activities, some students, like junior in art Shannon Smith did their own research individually.
“So it started out as just a self portrait, really simple, and I showed it to Dr. LaBeff and Dr. Stiles in the sociology department and they just went crazy and wanted me to turn it into a sociological piece, and so now it’s a photo essay and each woman here has their own story,” Smith said.
Some groups may be presenting projects again in the next spring.
