At a meeting on Nov. 8, University President Jesse Rogers and the Board of Regents reviewed the five-year cost of the project.
“It’s obvious that we need to raise more money,” Rogers said.
Rogers said so far campus officials have raised $2.97 million for the project. However he said board members and campus officials spoke to multiple consultants about the estimated cost of the project. Rogers said the field alone is projected to cost $6 million.
“A lot of that estimated cost comes from the fact that this is a first-rate field,” Rogers said.
Rogers said the projected number includes $1 million worth of site development beings that there is no room for the field on campus. He said the estimation also involves a $1.75 million field house and an added cost from an athletic consultant including new training equipment and staff.
“There are definitely cost cuts that we can make,” Rogers said. “We really just wanted to get an idea of the overall cost of the project before moving forward.”
