No Shave November makes the winter hairier from MWSU Campus Watch on Vimeo.
It’s November, which means it’s time for the beards to come out. Every November, men all over the country grow out their beards and mustaches for No-Shave November.
“I think No-Shave November is just pride in manliness,” said Jason Killion, a sophomore in music education. “It’s just dedicated for guys to show off what they’ve got and go back to the primitive days and show that they really are men.”
While it’s widely participated in, Killion and senior Tyler Senn have different reasons for growing out their beards.
“It all started because I wasn’t really allowed to grow a beard back home,” Killion said. “The teachers wouldn’t let you. But now that I’ve got that freedom I really like to show off my manhood I guess.”
“At first I thought it was a little weird, just guys not shaving for an entire month just because, but once I finally learned why you’re doing it, it’s a good cause,” said Senn, also a senior in senior music education. “And it’s fun. I mean, you kind of get to see how well your beard develops.”
No-Shave November developed out of Movember, a movement where men grow out their mustaches to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
Either way you look at it, men take pride in not shaving this month.
