Art Express arrives at WFMA from MWSU Campus Watch on Vimeo.
The trains, tracks and characters of the art express exhibit have made their way back the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at a train exhibit that opens Nov. 14.
The massive exhibit, containing a fraction of the items collected by Jim Hughes, features items for both young and old, with lots of special touches to be found litter over the miniature landscape.
Hughes, who began collecting in 1941, narrates presentation of the exhibit while members of his family operate eight trains over 504 feet of track.
Francine Carraro, the museum’s director, described the collection as an extraordinary one, and says it’s incredible thinking about all the items Hughes was able to amass since he started his collection.
“It’s wonderful to watch everyone just be in awe of all the details an how Jim becomes the conductor. He wears his conductor outfit with the conductor hat, and he leads everyone on what the trains are,” Carraro says.
Preparation for the Art Express began in September, and, according to Carraro, the trains have become a highly anticipated event on the Museum’s calendar.
“It has come to be a community event, a much beloved one. Children of all ages love it. And then there are a lot of adult buffs of model trains who love it,” Carraro says of the show that runs through January.
