Imagine Graduation is Oct. 22-23 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Clark Student Center Atrium.
Commencement, also known as graduation day, is coming up quickly for the more than 500 students who are set to graduate in December. The deadline for filing degree plans was last Monday for seniors who plan to walk the stage this semester. Barbara Lunce, assistant to the registrar says that although the deadline has passed it isn’t too late for students who forgot.
“Everything is done on an individual basis once the deadline has passed. So it depends on a particular student’s situation. We do check to see if all the requirements are met, and we go forward from there,” Lunce says.
For students who have their degree plan filed the next step is to attend Imagine Graduation, a “one-stop shop” for graduating seniors that allows them to do everything from reviewing the information on their diploma, to purchasing caps, gowns and even class rings from the bookstore.
“We confirm the name for the diploma, and what we’re gonna do with that diploma… if we’re gonna mail it or if they’ll come pick it up. Then they can talk to the business office and make sure they don’t have an holds. Then financial aid to get information about the exit counseling and of course the book store takes up the biggest part of the room, and you can buy your cap and gown there, order invitations, order a class ring,”Lunce says.
Lunce says that students should file for graduation as early as two full-semesters before their expected graduation date so that their degree plans can be audited early. The early registration deadline for May graduates was Monday.
One student who is taking advantage of early registration is senior in general business student Kyle Kramer who filed for graduation last week.
“They make it really easy. You just fill out the survey online and then you print out a couple of forms… just like name and your degree and you bring 30 bucks with you. They make it simple for you,”Kramer says.
Commencement ceremonies are set for Dec. 14 at Kay Yeager Colseum downtown.
