University President Jesse Rogers tells the story of a cat that belonged to Travis White, president of Midwestern University (as it was once called) when Rogers was hired, and a strange occurrence when the feline was nursed back to health by students after an accident.
In January 1950, the name of the university was changed to Midwestern University. But this wasn’t the first of the university’s names. It has also gone by Wichita Falls Junior College, Hardin Junior College and Hardin College. It wasn’t until 1975 that the Texas Legislature changed the name to Midwestern State University.
