Zany classical and jazz singer and MSU alumna Shaunette Hildabrand brought music from the 30s to the 50s to life at Akin auditorium on Oct. 16.
Hildabrand said that after traveling all her life because her father was in the Air Force, MSU became home when she came to school. “It’s great to be back in Wichita Falls,” Hildabrand said.
After graduating from MSU in 1985, Hildabrand moved to New York City to pursue a career in classical and jazz music. She then moved to England and became popular with her Europe jazz style.
Kassandra Jacobson, sophomore in social work, said, “The pianist was fantastic, as well. He played brilliantly the whole night. I would buy his CD in a heartbeat.”
Hildabrand sang nine songs and the pianist, Jon Weber, played three solos, as well.
Weber said, “We met in Switzerland and said we have to do a gig together, so here we are in Wichita Falls, and we love Wichita Falls.”
Hildabrand’s raspy voice resonated throughout the smiling audience for the hour and a half that she sang. There were about 75 people in attendance. Around 20 of those were college students.
Jacobson said, “I really enjoyed the concert. Even though jazz isn’t my favorite genre of music, I found myself really getting into the music.”
