BLACKPINK made a comeback with their third mini album “DEADLINE” on Feb. 27, nearly three and a half years after their second full album, “BORN PINK.”
The album consists of five tracks: “JUMP,” “GO,” “Me and my,” “Champion,” and “Fxxxboy.”
“GO” is the title track for the album, and they released music video for it at the same time as the album
I do find it quite disappointing how it is a mini album instead of a full album. It only increases their discography by a few more songs, bringing their total number of distinct songs from 30 to 35.
I also find it disappointing that the tracks consist mainly of English lyrics, though “JUMP” is an exception with some Korean.
My first reaction to the music video for “GO” was, “What kind of acid trip did I just watch?”
Now, do not get me wrong, it is a good listen, but only over time while listening to the album.
It was just very surprising to see so much happening in the music video and a lot of visual effects being used — I was flabbergasted the whole way.
However, as I was listening to the album these past few days, I have grown to enjoy “GO” as a song. However, I will still be shocked every time I watch the music video
In addition, my favorite songs in the album have been “Champion” and “Fxxxboy.” For some reason, I have favored “Champion” more than the other songs. I do not know why, but I think it is because it feels familiar to me in a way.
“Champion” sounds like an anthem song that would be played at live shows or concerts and seems a bit nostalgic. To me, the song is about hope and never giving up when life gets hard.
The fifth and last track, “Fxxxboy,” sounds like it talks about how some men will be loose in relationships and be a “fxxxboy.” In the song, the members decided to talk about that behavior and flip the stereotype in order to stick it to those kinds of men, stated in the lyric, “How’s it feel? Now I’m the fxxxboy.”
This album seems to show a mature side of them while still being in their style, to an extent, and unfortunately, containing little to no Korean.
