Mar y Sol Cocina Latina, the latest addition from the Lombardi Family Concepts, is a Latin-inspired restaurant located in the Uptown district of Dallas. Since opening in July 2024, the restaurant has captivated both diners and influencers. Designed to immitate the tropical beaches of Tulum, its decor features details such as rattan lamps, ceramics and ceiling branches, creating a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere.
The culinary experience is a journey through various Latin American flavors, with influences from Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Colombia. The menu is crafted by chef Ty Thaxton and offers dishes like duck flautas, crispy and filled with carnitas, accompanied by a guajillo chili sauce rich in flavor but not too spicy.
Another standout dish is the Lechón y Shrimp Chaufa, which combines traditional techniques with fresh ingredients and contemporary presentations. For those seeking something more substantial, the Sunday brunch includes Latin-inspired dishes along with creative cocktails.
In addition to its cuisine, Mar y Sol is known for its visually striking and creative cocktails. The star of its drink menu is “La Diabla,” a mango margarita served in a glass enveloped in smoke. This detail makes each drink a visual experience perfect for social media. On weekends, the atmosphere becomes even livelier with a DJ, creating a space that blends gastronomy with a festive vibe.
However, the compact space and table arrangement may be a drawback. Some diners find that the tables are too close together, limiting privacy and personal space. Even so, Mar y Sol stands out as an innovative concept in Dallas, ideal for those who want to enjoy Latin food in a modern and visually appealing setting.
While securing a reservation can be challenging and the wait times for a table are high, the attentive staff, ambiance, food and cocktails make it worth a high rating.
Without a doubt, Mar y Sol is a restaurant I would return to and recommend to friends who may not know much about South American cuisine—or even to those Latin American friends who miss the taste of food from their home countries. Its creative approach to traditional flavors and its vibrant atmosphere make it an ideal spot to introduce others to the richness of Latin American gastronomy or to enjoy familiar flavors in a stylish and inviting setting.
I rate this restaurant 5 mustangs.
