In tradition to giving students a break the Thursday before finals week, the University Programming Board celebrated the 29th Finals Frenzy on Dec. 7 in the Clark Student Center. With events focused around the theme ‘Fly Away With MSU,’ students enjoyed the break from preparing for future countless all-nighters and last minute cramming for upcoming finals.
The events hosted at Finals Frenzy were as follows:

Lia Wiley, radiology sophomore, said she feels the stress of finals on her shoulders and was relieved to find an event that could help lift some of the stress off.
“They have a bunch of really cool stuff to do,” Wiley said, “and it’s something to do other than sitting in my room. It’s a nice break.”
Wiley said she hopes to enjoy a majority of the activities with a few specific in mind.
“The ugly sweater contest, I’m really excited for that,” Wiley said, “and also the karaoke because I think one of my friends is going to be doing that.”
Imane Morlock, kinesiology junior, passed by Finals Frenzy after a class with her friends and found herself wanting more.
“We just came from a dance class and we saw everybody was showing up here,” Morlock said. “So we were like we should go to, and we didn’t wanna study.”
Morlock hoped to avoid her studies for a few hours to take a break and engage in some of the activities Finals Frenzy had to offer.
“I really enjoyed making the little bamboo thing,” Morlock said.
But some activities required improvements in planning according to Morlock.
“I think we need more free hot chocolate though, put that in the paper,” Morlock said.
Sedona Swanner, radiology freshman, said she felt the same way with the planning of the archery event.
“I heard there was an archery event but I didn’t see any of that,” Swanner said, “but it sounds like it would’ve been fun.”
Despite missing the archery event, Swanner said she still found events that left her feeling just as satisfied in finding a way to take a break before finals and leaving for break.
“I was looking forward to the comedian tonight,” Swanner said. “I thought it would be pretty funny, and the henna tattoos were pretty cool too. I decided to come just to take a break from all the stress of studying for finals and just to relax before the break.”
Being Swanner’s first semester, she hopes to attend future similar events .
“I think this is a great way for people to like get rid of stress for finals and interact with their friends,” Swanner said.
Charlotte Mcdaniel, nursing sophomore, noticed the improvements from last semester’s Final Frenzy.
“I like this one better than last year’s, I mean the activities are better,” Mcdaniel said.
Mcdaniel said she got the most enjoyment out of the henna tattoos and loved the ‘luck’ aspect of the featured activities.
“I like the lucky bamboo,” Mcdaniel said. “Like all of the lucky stuff you know a little of this is good stress relief.”
Mcdaniel believes there is always room for improvement and hopes to see even more activities at next semester Finals Frenzy.
“Maybe a lot more fun stuff like games and stuff,” Mcdaniel said.
But to others like Wiley, she feels the event went great and she wouldn’t change a thing.
“I think this is amazing, it’s awesome, I wouldn’t really change anything,” Wiley said.

Juan Mercado, sociology senior | “Photobooth, because you get to keep those memories for forever, and capture it in a photo. I really like that we do that. The presentation of the new members of OdPhi [Omega Delta Phi], that was really cool to have them here, this is the second time they’ve done that. I think it’s really cool to show the campus our Greek community, in our MGC [Multicultural Greek Council].”
Shannon Myart, sports administration graduate student | “My favorite part about Finals Frenzy was the massage parlor. Some experienced hands, they relieve a little bit of tension that was from weeks worth of work.”
Brooke Broadstreet, dental hygiene freshman | “We get to take a break from studying and have fun.”
Terron McCullough, graphic design senior | “My favorite activity for this Finals Frenzy was the archery, because I like being able to pull the bow and arrow and shoot it at the target. The way I study is –I can’t study in my room because I feel closed off, I get distracted easily, so I like to study outside. But, since it’s very cold out now, I gotta study in a big room where live music is playing, that’s where I can get my own vibe.”
Katie Jones, nursing junior | “It was so fun. It was a good time. They gave us a lot of free stuff and a lot of free food.”
Jaslyn Winkan, respiratory junior | “Today was pretty fun, there was ornament making, gingerbread decorating all of it was pretty fun and we should have more like this.”
Sapphire Vasquez, fine arts freshman | “It’s been really cool, just a lot of activities, eating at the school, massage was fun, the little bamboo was super cute and I really liked the little ornaments.”
