College students face first-world problems all the time. A phone battery at 50 percent after a 9 a.m. class. The professor who won’t let you leave early like normal. Or no one up-voted a hilarious YikYak post. While these problems have no easy solution, here are some solutions to the real-world problem of saving money with a student ID.
- Jersey Mike’s — Jersey Mike’s offers students a $5 meal featuring a mini sub, chips and drink. This deal extends to teachers as well.
- Denny’s — Denny’s began offering students 10 percent off on the entire menu. That $4 order of all-you-can-eat pancakes just got a lot sweeter.
- Chicken Express — Chicken Express is already known for being generous by shoving eight or more chicken fingers into a four-finger meal, but the restaurant also offers a 10 percent discount for students who decide to eat in the lobby.
- Raising Cane’s Chicken — I’m putting Raising Cane’s at number four for two reasons. Not only do they give students a 10 percent discount on meals, but they also help a lot with the community. If you are involved with an organization, they are eager to help you do a fundraiser with their restaurant. They take care of everything and all you have to do is get people to order some chicken. The more orders, the more money your organization gets.
- Insurance Companies — Now, this might not be just for Wichita Falls, but the deal is pretty sweet. State Farm, ESurance, Nationwide and Allstate all offer up to 25 percent off (along with other various deals) for students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and the discount lasts until you’re 25-years-old, even after graduation.
- Qdoba and Chipotle — Unfortunately, Chipotle isn’t open yet, but when they do open, be prepared to receive a free drink with a purchase of a meal, but Qdoba offers the same deal already. There’s no need to ask for a cup for “water” and “accidentally” fill it up with Dr Pepper.
- Bahama Bucks — Summer is gone, but that hasn’t stopped me from abusing the student deal at Bahama Bucks. The glorified snowcone stand gives a free size-up for students. Temperatures are dropping, so don’t forget about this deal when the heat comes back (next week, probably).
- New York Times — If The Wichitan isn’t your number one news source, I’d suggest The New York Times. The number two newspaper in the United States (behind The Wall Street Journal) offers college students a whopping 50 percent discount. Some classes require The New York Times as a textbook, so if you’re looking for world news that fits on your phone or computer, take advantage of this discount.
- Stage West — You might be living under a rock if you’ve never heard of Stage West’s college night deal. Girls get in for free before 9 p.m. on Thursday nights. Just make sure to wash the big black “X’s” off your hands before class the next morning.
- Chick-Fil-A — Wichita Falls practically flipped upside down once Chick-Fil-A opened in June of 2013. Chick-Fil-A offers by far the best service of any fast food restaurant in town. To make matters sweeter, they have College Night every Monday from 5-9 p.m. When you order a large meal, they’ll give you a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich or an 8-count of chicken nuggets.
