Located by the Starbucks on Kemp Boulevard, the new Viet-Thai restaurant called Pho Café serves traditional Vietnamese dishes such as Bánh mì sandwiches and Pho. They are open weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is closed Tuesdays.
The cafe is clean and tidy, with white walls lined with different pieces of art and pictures. Some of the art seemed out of place, like a picture of a double-decker bus on a London street, but I wasn’t going to worry about it unless there was an English sausage hidden in my noodle dish.
There is plenty of seating, almost too much seating if it was a packed house.
One of the employees pointed to a table nicely and told me to sit there. They kept everyone in one section making it seem a little clustered.
When I sat down, the waitress brought over a menu and took my drink order. The menu was filled with Viet-Thai specialties, including smoothies with boba, which are tapioca balls. I went with the Coca Cola and lime, can never go wrong with that.
After the drink was brought out, the waitress took my order. It was nice to not feel rushed, which has become common in restaurants that aim to rush guests out the door.
The first thing I ordered were egg rolls. They were rich in flavor, and the perfect amount of crisp to the outside.
For my main course I ordered the grilled pork, rice noodle and egg roll dinner. This was my first time eating this style of food, and it exceeded my expectations. The grilled pork was cooked perfectly, along with the very filling rice noodles. There were enough leftovers for a decent second meal.
The cooks definitely give you more than enough at Pho Café. I had plenty of food to easily feed two people with one meal, and for the price, you can’t beat that.
I didn’t order the Pho, but a friend did and he also had plenty of leftovers to save for later, making this a great restaurant for student on a budget who still wants a high quality meal.
With the overall cost close to $16, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with a taste for Vietnamese cuisine or anyone willing to eat outside of their normal routine.
