University offers winter term from MWSU Campus Watch on Vimeo.
The fall semester is coming to a close, but students will be given the opportunity to take some courses over the winter break for the first time. Vice President of Admissions Robert Clark says he feels this will help students.
“This will help our own students kind of stay on track, and be able to continue to matriculate. If they had problems, for example with one of the other core courses, we’re offering several of those in the mini, and they’ll be able to stay online, and stay in sequence. If you had problems with an art class or if you had a problem with Theatre Appreciation you can take it in the winter mini,” Clark said.
The winter mini-term will be from Dec. 16 – Jan. 10, and the courses offered are all online. The four-week period, Clark says is not made for every student.
“It’s designed for good students because boy things are going to move real fast and real intense,” Clark said.
Because this is the first time the university has offered a condensed winter term, the outcome of enrollment will determine whether the university will offer another winter mini-term.
“It’s kind of a test case, I think if most of the classes make then by all means we’re going to be doing another winter mini,” Clark said.
Classes being offered range from art and Theatre Appreciation to English and physics courses. There are only nine classes being offered this semester, but Clark says he hopes to expand the class options. It will all depend on this semester’s enrollment, and Clark said he is optimistic about the outcome.
“I would be surprised if all of the classes did not make,” Clark said.
If you are interested in registering for the winter mini you need to set up an appointment with your academic adviser, but hurry because the classes are filling quickly.
