Residence life put on two events in Legacy to jump off Round Up Week, brick painting and an ice cream social. Both events had more than 150 students in attendance.
“We bought 100 bricks and Killingsworth had 30 extra bricks,” Norma Ramirez, assistant director of residence life, said. “We had to turn people away.”
According to Ramirez this year’s events have brought out a lot of students. While the events are primarily directed toward freshman, all students are welcome and encouraged to join in the festivities.
“Round Up this year had a lot of attendance, people are enjoying themselves and telling their friends,” Ramirez said. “Round Up has been packed.”
Six gallons of ice cream was purchased for the Ice Cream Social, but the amount of students in attendance forced them to purchase more during the event.
“We bought 6 gallons of ice cream and we are giving a scoop and a half to two scoops per person to make it last a little extra that way,” said Ramirez.
Some residence assistants thought it was a good idea to have the events on the round up schedule because it helped with the turn out.
“It was really good having [ice cream social] on the round up schedule,” Ashley Ates, global studies senior said.
According to RA Kelcia Righten, a business management senior, the events were successful because they brought out a lot students and hopefully made the new residence feel at home.
“There were more students than expected, so I would say it’s a successful event,” Righten said.
