Sept. 10, during a special media event at the company headquarters in Cupertino, California, Apple debuted the much anticipated iPhone 5s and 5c.
The 5S is an upgraded version of its predecessor, boasting a new processor, while Apple is introducing the 5C to fill a long-missing niche as an affordable and colorful alternative.
Both phones will come loaded with the new iOS7 operating system announced earlier this year.
The iOS7 marks the first drastic departure from the original iOS, which debuted in 2007. It sports a new color scheme, redesigned icons and an animated interface. The new os will be a pleasing and an intuitive change according to Apple.
The 5C is essentially the same phone as the current version of the iPhone 5, only with five color options for the new plastic backing.
The 5C will be available for pre-order beginning September 13.
The 5S fits the same aluminum form as the current iPhone 5, but has undergone a serious speed upgrade thanks to the A7 processing chip and the M7 graphics chip.
This means the 5S is capable of up to 40 times faster processing speeds and 56 times faster graphic speeds than the original iPhone, which debuted in 2007.
To add to the host of upgrades the apple designers have introduced a new security feature. A finger print scanner, located in the phone’s home button, has replaced the traditional lock screen. With this introduction, the phone truly recognizes the user and makes unlocking the phone a near effortless process.
Another 5S detail many people will be excited about, thanks to Instagram and other fan-favorite photo apps, is the upgraded camera.
With a 15 percent size increase to the image sensor and an increase in aperture size, the camera now has a 33 percent increase in overall light sensitivity. This means better, brighter images for the photographer.
Both phones are available for viewing on www.apple.com.
