The Midwestern State’s men’s soccer team ended its regular season with a 2-0 win over the St. Mary University’s Rattlers on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The Mustangs’ final win of the season was nothing short of a tough battle, as the two rivaling teams have faced each other more than 10 times in the last five years.
Graduate assistant coach Mariano Fazio said, “This is a team we already played against, so it was not easy to win again. When you win against a team you’ve already played before, they know you and they try to do something different to beat you this time.”

Marketing junior Samuele Muroni and business management senior Mere Escobar scored for the maroon and gold, leading the team to a 15-win streak concluding this year’s Lone-Star Conference league play. The opening goal came from Muroni in the 27th minute with an assist from sports administration senior Maycol Reyes, followed by a second score in the 67th minute from Escobar, assisted by exercise physiology junior Liam Pritchard. Three-time All-American Escobar secured his place in the LSC overall standings with a conference-high of 16 total goals scored.
Head Coach Michael Meachum credited his team’s outstanding achievements to the players’ impeccable mental resilience which has played a pivotal role in their mission to secure the Lone Star title. The Mustangs’ outstanding will and drive came through securing 13 back-to-back wins after tying with Rogers State early in the season.

“I think the results have obviously been very positive, we haven’t had many blimps, obviously we had the one draw against Rogers State, which was probably not our best game, but we came back and our reactions were really positive, we’ve had a really good mentality, and we have been really committed to our ultimate goal,” Coach Meachum explained
The Mustangs conquered their league rankings with a 9-0 win-loss record and hit an MSU all-time best mark of 17-0-1. MSU came up on top of their program’s standings with 15-straight games won, matching the achievement during the 2008 season, when the Mustangs first set the record.
