More than 200 students received the opportunity to interact with 19 companies on the local and state level March 26 at the Business Networking Career Fair.
This was the first fair put on by the Career Management Center for business majors as a part of a new career fair format focusing on a specific major rather than having one large networking fair.
“I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet potential employers,” Fidel Mitchell, a senior in marking and economics, said. “If I didn’t meet one, just to find out what the business world is looking for in a graduate.”
Business leaders said they actually prefer to hire college graduates because they have the ability to bring new and up-to-date ideas to the company, and they are motivated to find a career.
“We definitely like getting college graduates,” said Tracy Adams, a representative from CGI-Nationwide. “It’s good because they are more up-to-date on the software and new programming languages. They also have fresh ideas and fresh thoughts.”
This career fair also gave students a chance to impress employers.
“A lot of the likely graduates are not sure what they are looking for, but a lot are open to it,” said Jeff Arnold, an insurance agent at Banker’s Life and Casualty. “Several have a good idea what they are looking for and what they want in a career, which is always nice.”
The Career Management Center will also assist employers with setting up on campus interviews in April with students in which they were interested.
