SGA needs to implement a better recycling program
May it be plastic, paper, metal, glass, electronics or compost, the Student Government Association needs to implement a better recycling program.
Trash cans collecting plastic, paper and cans are embarrassing to an academic facility and do not mirror intellectual decisions and values.
The blue trash cans spread around campus carry the sign “paper, plastic and cans,” but separating these materials would be more efficient for the environment and would support the university’s interest to act as an exemplary role model.
Even though the current recycling program has shown its difficulties with faculty, staff and students, an improved recycling process should not be an obstacle.
The administration assumes students would not support a more efficient recycling program, because the current recycling process has not found any support.
Assistant professors are responsible for taking out the trash cans to a location, where it is collected and ready for pick up, but this process has been struggling due to organizational difficulties.
Another assumption of the administration is students would ignore the postings on recycling bins, the way it has been, which is also called ignorance and lack of progression.
If the university administrators do not believe in their own students to progress toward a healthier environment and start acting against pollution, nothing is going to change, because this generation has to realize global warming and pollution is real and mankind is leaving lasting damage to the environment, which can only harm future generations.
It is convenient laziness to not put plastic to plastic, glass to glass and paper to paper. Separating trash is not difficult.
If students are not able to separate these materials, people will doubt our reputation and how much a college degree is worth.
The earth is running out of natural resources. Trash piles up while the population increases.
It is naïve to think future generations are not going to suffer from this man-made trash.
Recycling is a process using material waste to produce new useful materials.
It reduces the diminishing of potentially useful materials.
It reduces the consumption of fresh raw materials.
Recycling reduces energy usage, air and water pollution.
Recycling has many positive effects, which is the reason why this university has to start making changes and overcome the habit of convenience, but look towards progress.
IESI is a progressive waste solution company offering recycling services at low costs and promises annual savings with recycling trash.
If SGA implements this new recycling process and students put a little more effort into separating trash, the university can use its power as an impacting role model.
Go green, because recycling is cool.
This generation could be refered to as the generation looking out for the future.
