Mariachi band to perform Sept. 20

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mariachi Nueva Era will play in a free concert Sept. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Sikes Lake Pavilion.
“We are having this event in part of Hispanic heritage month to show students the beauty of Hispanic culture” Claudio Rodriguez, residence life coordinator, said.
Housing and residence life is and leadership and involvement is hosting this event at the Wellness Center.
“I have never been to a mariachi concert, and I feel like it will be a great experience,” LaNisa Small, radiology sophomore, said.
The mariachis that will be performing are from Dallas, Texas. The band performs traditional mariachi music along with various genres such as Top 40, Country, Pop, 80s Rock, Motown, Kumbia, Norteno and Bachata.
“The band will be interacting with the guests and try to get them moving around,” Rodriguez said.
Mariachi Nuevo Era is the third event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on campus. The previous event was Viva MSU Fiesta which had free food, dancing, music, and games. There are free events scheduled for the rest of September to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on campus.
