To raise money to attend a convention called AKON, the Anime Club members held a yard sale in the quad April 20.
Rebecca Blevins, graphic design freshman and Anime club member, said, “We are trying to raise money to go on a trip to a convention that will take place in June. Rather than asking the school for money, we want to raise it ourselves.”
Members of the Anime club meet to discuss various subjects about anime as well as theories, likes, dislikes and comparisons to western animation.
Jocelyn Taggart, art freshman and Anime club member, said, members set up the yard sale at 8:30 a.m and the sale began at 9 a.m.
The highest priced items were the two televisions at $15, and the lowest priced items were the notepads which cost $.20.
For 14 members, they need $1,600 to allow the members to attend completely free.
John Bell, respiratory care junior and Anime club member, said, although they won’t raise $1,600 from the sale itself, it is an effort to lower the cost for the convention.
The Anime club members also held bake sales throughout the year to help with the cost of the convention, and they also have an auction coming up April 27.
The club members raised $30.
