The members of Alpha Phi will be hosting the first Mr. Heartthrob competition on April 30 in the Comanche Suites. The competition will be a four-part pageant consisting of a formal attire competition, a swimsuit competition, a talent show, and a question and answer segment.
“We thought it would be a fun way to raise money,” Shelby Emerson, education sophomore and event coordinator, said.
There are 10 participants who have signed up so far but Abby Anderson, business junior, said she plans to get more people to take part in the competition.
“Since this is our first year hosting this event, we want to have between 20 and 25 participants,” said Anderson.
Members are hosting the event to raise money for Women’s Cardiac Care, an Alpha Phi philanthropy organization.
“We’re the only sorority that has a foundation for ourselves,” said Anderson.
The competition will be the second event of the day that Alpha Phi members will be participating in. The first is the Midwestern Cookout Classic, co-hosted by members of Kappa Alpha Order.
“Our goal for the pageant is to raise $300 for the Alpha Phi Foundation,” said Emerson.
