College students and faculty worked with about 30 area high school students on a printmaking exercise Tuesday. Students carved the art into wood, applied ink and then had a steamroller run over the art and paper outside.
Estrella Morrow, art junior: “I was most excited to see how the printmaking would turn out.”
Heather Owens, art senior: “There were over 30 people here, probably around 32. I definitely think this was a good turnout. I’ve done this three times, and it started before I got here.”
Ramsey Mata, a senior at Rider High School, said she’s been at the steam-roller project since 8:30 a.m. #mcom1243 pic.twitter.com/mxxPv7FisI

Ramsey Mata, Rider High School senior: “We’ve been here since 8:30 in the morning because we had to get all the wood, ink and supplies ready.”
Noe Alcantar, Wichita Falls High School senior: “(The print) turned out a lot better than I thought. I felt like I rushed it.”
Marlem Martinez, Wichita Falls High School freshman: “I enjoyed the process of the screen prints being made because you get to drive the big steamroller thing.”

Jake A. Vance, Rider High School junior: “It was inspired by Queen. Queen is my favorite band. I added the two biggest elements in my life in my picture. On the right I have art brushes and on the left I have percussions.”

Evi Economo, Rider High School senior: “We drew (the art) and carved it in a block of wood. Mine was a lotus flower with a woman coming out of it holding the sun and the moon, which represents life. The most fun was stressing out and having it work out nicely.”
Lauren Hamlin, printmaking junior, “They’re all going to be printed today. You can see all of the work in the foyer.”
