After beating Tarleton State 63-46 last week, the 4-0 football team moved up to No. 20 in the national rankings. Now players said they are looking forward to their next game against the Angelo State Rams, the only other unbeaten team in the LSC.
Mitchell Henton a mechanical engineering sophomore starter for the team said, “As a team we’ve been working really hard to achieve our goal of winning this years conference title and proceeding to the national championships. The last conference was won in 2012, and we have never made it to the national championships so that’s our main goal.”
The team plays Saturday at 7 p.m. in San Angelo.
Henton said, “This is a big game for our team. If we win this game it creates a huge chance for us to win conference.”
Henton added, our biggest priority is to stop Angelo’s quarterback Kyle Washington, who was named preseason LSC player of the year.
Darren Paige, assistant football coach said, “We have a very good chance of winning this weekend. We had a good win last Saturday over Tarleton so we have a lot of confidence going into this game.”
With 20 hours a week of practice, strength and conditioning as well as meetings the Mustangs are looking to have a 5-0 record for the first time since 2011.
Paige said, “At the beginning of the year we set goals, one of the top ones being to win a conference championship. Without preparing for each game the right way, football practice, strength, studying opponents, we wouldn’t get the results we want.”
