In this summer blockbuster, Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the fourth movie in the “Jurassic Park” series, “Jurassic World.”
“Jurassic World” takes place 22 years after the events of the first movie, on the original island of Isla Nublar. The island is now functioning as a highly successful theme park, as was imagined throughout to series. People travel from all around the world to see real living dinosaurs roaming the island. However, things take a turn for the worst whenever scientists are pressured into breeding a dinosaur whose intelligence and aggressiveness endanger the entire island.
Chris Pratt stars as Owen, one of the controllers for the different dinosaurs on the island, and also has begun to train four large raptors, proving that dinosaurs are at the very least capable of being domesticated, if a little unwilling.
Spielberg may not have directed “Jurassic World,” but his talent as a producer has left its mark. The mystique of the island is intact, and the new quality of CGI will leave viewers in awe as they witness Pratt gently pat the head of a fallen brontosauras, or issue commands to a group of wily raptors.
The characters throughout the movie are also very enjoyable, and they each have their own personality. From the sarcastic guy who works the cameras to the insanely rich owner who doesn’t have a clue what is happening in his own theme park, every single actor adds their own personality to the story, and it is unlikely that any character will be forgotten.
“Jurassic World” is reminiscient of the original film every step of the way, from references to certain elements, such as Mr. DNA or the fated mosqitoes that supposedly contained the original dinosaur DNA, as well as a group of scientists blindly creating a giant uncontainable killing machine and hoping for the best (what could possibly go wrong with giant dinosaurs?). However, as much of a throwback as it is, it is hopelessly unable to match up to “Jurassic Park” in terms of innovation and impact, and it is at its heart an action movie.
And as far as the action goes, it is stellar.
Viewers sh0uld expect to see a rugged Pratt take on wave after wave of flying, screeching and sprinting dinosaurs in some of the most dynamic action sequences in recent memory. The message is not anything new, but the drama remains intact.
There is a giant super-intelligent dinosaur wreaking havov on Isla Nublar, and Pratt will need more than his own two hands to stop it.
