The women’s tennis team qualified for the NCAA Sweet 16 for the third consecutive year. After beating St. Edwards University to secure their spot in the tournament, the team is set to face California University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 13.
Head coach Scott Linn said he is proud of his players for consistently playing their best.
“I’m super excited for our women’s team,” he said. “They’ve worked hard to get here, and they have earned their spot.”
While the thrill of playing in the NCAA tournament is an important accomplishment, Linn said it’s important to stay focused to keep playing well.
“We’ll take it one game at a time,” Linn said. “We want to reach our potential and play the best we can.”
Linn also plans on keeping the practice schedules and preparation the same as they were through the whole season to keep their momentum moving forward.
“We’ll practice the same way we have all year long,” Linn said. “It’s a process. You don’t want to mess with the process right now.”
Linn and his players feel confident in themselves matching up against their next opponent.
“They’re up for the challenge,” Linn said.
Despite the youth of the team, with only one senior and a handful of juniors, Linn said his players are prepared to achieve their full potential in this tournament.
“They’ve been here before, twice, so they are used to it,” Linn said. “They can handle it.”
