Start off spring break on the greener side of downtown this Saturday at the 15th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival.
The festival kicks off at 4:30 p.m. and lasts until 10:30 p.m. in historic downtown Wichita Falls.
Elizabeth Walker, biology sophomore, has been to the St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival for the passed two years.
“St. Patrick’s day is actually my birthday! It’s such a good time. In 2013, we watched Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights play an outside set. They were so good.” Walker said.
“There are many booths set up throughout the festival. I like to look for the vendors that have things handmade. And of course the food and green beer.” Walker said. “I think a lot of young adults complain that there aren’t many things to do here, and this Festival is something that can be fun. Supporting local music, vendors, and the downtown development is important to get more events in the city that are for all ages.”
The 15th annual festival is presented by and benefits the nonprofit organization Downtown Wichita Falls Development.
According to the Downtown Wichita Falls Development website, “their sole focus is on improving the downtown area in order to make it a destination where we can all live, work, and play.”
Joanna Thompson, project director at Downtown Wichita Falls Development, said, “There is going to be a magician strolling around, a photo-booth set up, games, and vendors alike,” this Saturday.
In addition, there will be live music paired with all the greenery. Starting off the night, Aryon Jones and the Way, followed by local group Mike O’Neill and Friends, and AA Bottom who is returning to the Irish Festival.
And then, Luke Wade, known for his appearance on NBC’s “The Voice” will open up for the Old 97’s.
Robbie Dunkelberg, social work junior, said, “I haven’t ever been to the festival, but my dad has been every year pretty much. He’s even coming in town for it this weekend. He likes the whole atmosphere.”
For students and military with ID, pre-sale tickets are online for $10 and then at the door, $15. Kids under 12 are free.
