MEN

The men’s tennis team begins its season at home against Collin College, Friday at 1 p.m.

Scott Linn, head coach said he can’t wait to see where this season takes them because the depth on the team is stronger.

“We have many upperclassman this year, and as a coach it’s great to see so much leadership from them,” Linn said.

Kacper Boborykin, senior in finance, said he has to set an example for the team to show the underclassman how to get things done.

“Winning matches and having a positive attitude on the court is really important to be a leader,” Boborykin said.

Linn said the exhibition matches they played in January were a good start. The men’s team beat Abilene Christian 5-2 on Jan 24.

Against UT-Arlington the players weren’t able to come out with a win, but they did receive two victories in the double matches. Linn said, the men’s biggest competitor this season will be West Florida, the 2014 NCAA National Champions. That match is set for March 17 in Florida.

WOMEN

The women’s season begins at home Feb. 14 at noon. Linn said the competition on the team right now is remarkable.

“I have a lot of confidence in the ladies this year,” Linn said.

Mass communication sophomore Amy Clifton is back this semester after having a fractured hip.

“The best part about being back is being around all the girls and having their support around me,” Clifton said.

Clifton said after being away with an injury, it is great to have a team around to share all the highs and lows with.

The girls made it to the Sweet 16 at Nationals last year and Clifton said she can’t wait be back and to make it even further this year.
