Last night at a Student Government Association meeting attended by about 80 students, Keith Lamb, vice president of student affairs and enrollment management, gave an hour-long presentation updating students on the university’s proposed master plan.
Lamb focused on parking as 220 resident spaces will be lost when construction begins on a new residence hall May 2015 if the Board of Regents approves the plans.
In addition to that construction, Lamb said the mass communication and student media programs will receive new space to be added to the east side of the Fain Fine Arts Center, again contingent on board approval.
“Fain Fine Arts mass communication was initially long term. That has been moved up simultaneous with the housing project,” Lamb said.
Lamb said if the state legislature approves funding for a new health science building to be built in the Prothro-Yager Hall parking lot 313 parking spaces would be lost. Lamb said if the new health science building is approved, the education department would move into Bridwell Hall.
When Lamb gave the option of constructing an off-campus flat parking lot or an on-campus parking garage, students were nearly unanimous in their support of the parking garage even if it meant raising the cost of parking permits to $150.
