The football team kept the lead on Angelo State University Saturday night at Memorial Stadium for most of the game but couldn’t come out with the win, resulting in a 45-31 loss.
Angelo State put the first points on the board with a touchdown early in the first quarter.
MSU ended the first quarter with a lead of 10-7 after a touchdown from Statron Jones and a 35-yard field goal from Brenden Grimley.
Another touchdown was made from ASU in the second quarter.
After a fumbled ball and turnover to ASU, the Mustangs still managed to lead the first half 17-14.
MSU lost their lead in the third quarter when Angelo State scored a touchdown to bring the score to 21-17.
Dante Taylor scored a touchdown for MSU with 7:27 left in the third quarter to regain their lead.
ASU scored a touchdown with 49 seconds left in the third quarter and again to start off the fourth quarter to come to a 35-24 lead.
QB Jake Glover ran the ball 15 yards through ASU defense to score a touchdown for MSU with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs fell short to Angelo State University in the end with a final score 45-31.
“I know we’re better than this,” head coach Bill Maskill said in his speech to the team after the loss.
The team will take on West Texas A&M Saturday Oct. 11 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
