The men’s soccer team traveled to Dallas Aug. 30 for another tune-up against the academy-level players affiliated with FC Dallas at Moneygram Soccer Park, beating them 2-0.
Head men’s soccer coach Doug Elder said, “They [FC Dallas academy players] were hanging around in the first half. They are very skillful players. We were just more physical.”
In the final minutes Midwestern managed to score 2-0 with a tap over the FC Dallas academy goalie Charlie Furrer by junior forward Albert Rodriguez.
Elder said, “We challenged and we served it through and our athleticism we just ran right past them and Alex was able to finish.”

Elder said his team played well defensively but the players chased the ball too much.
“We need to demand the ball more offensively and we need to create more offensive opportunities,” Elder said.
The FC Dallas professional team reserves, which the MSU team was originally scheduled to play, had a road game in Chicago.
Midwestern State opens the 2014 campaign ranked 12th in the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America Division II Preseason Poll. The Mustangs return nine letter winners and seven starters off of last season’s 12-4-2 squad which reeled a 13-match match unbeaten streak to advance to the third round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
