The Wichita Falls Museum of Art will start off its annual Live at the Lake Summer Concert Series on May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The series’ first performance will be by Mike O’ Neil, a Live at the Lake veteran who has performed at the event five times before. Mary Helen Maskill, the museum director of public programs, said there will be a variety of different performers and genres throughout the summer
“We have a wide range of music,” Maskill said. “A jazz cortet, country, acoustic rock, blues, etc.”
The series, which starts on the last day of final exams, will continue throughout the summer with a total of eight concerts, two each month from May to August, and although many students will be on summer break, a crowd still shows up, according to Maskill.
“We usually have about 250 people that show up,” Maskill said. “These concerts give students who are here during the summer something to do since there aren’t many activities going on on campus.”
Along with music at the first concert, the Gypsy Kit On The Go, a local food truck serving food from pulled pork sandwiches with fries to tacos will also be parked at the event for anyone hungry.
Simeon Trevino, freshman in marketing, said he is excited about the series.
“As a musician myself, I love seeing live music,” said Trevino. “Plus I’m a commuter so I stay around here during the summer, so it nice having a little something to look forward to.”
Matt Reaves, sophomore in criminal justice, said this will be his first summer staying so he also plans to attend.
“I’m staying here over the summer to work, so I was looking to see if there was anything to do during the summer,” said Reaves. “I haven’t heard of much going on around campus this summer so this should be pretty fun, especially since it’s free.”
