Freshman’s streak earns her LSC player award
Katelyn Vinson’s .737 batting average, combined with her six home runs and 14 RBIs from March 26 – April 1, against Central Oklahoma, Incarnate Word and Ouachita Baptist (ARK.) led to her being named the Lone Star Conference hitter of the week on April 2.
The freshman designated hitter has played a key role in the softball team’s 27-11 season, and she is currently on an eight-game hitting streak with a .720 batting average with two doubles, seven home runs and 15 scored runs.
Vinson became the second freshman in program history to hit 10 home runs in a season, and she currently leads the LSC with a .506 batting average. She is currently ranked ninth in the nation for her batting average, as well.
The softball team’s next home stand will be on April 5-6, as West Texas will come to campus to play a three-game series. April 5’s game is set to start at 7 p.m., while April 6’s double-header will take place at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
