The sister of a Midwestern State University graduate student who drowned Sunday at Turner Falls, OK, is asking for help to raise funds to send her brother’s body home to be buried in India.
Naga Subhash Moturu, 26, died Sunday, May 10 when he was in a deep water area with friends at Turner Falls and could not swim to safety.
According to his sister, Mrudalini Moturu, she is trying to raise funds to send her brother home to India where their mother is.
“As his loving sister, I want to fulfill my responsibility of sending him back to his favorite place – India, for his final rituals,” Moturu stated. “I greatly appreciate your support during this difficult time.”
Moturu created a GoFundMe Monday afternoon, and within two hours, 101 donors raised almost $5,000. The goal of the fundraiser is $200,000 and is currently standing at more than $40,000.
In a report from KXII in Oklahoma City, the tragedy happened about 5 p.m. at the blue hole pool.
News9 of Oklahoma City states there were no lifeguards on duty because of the coronavirus pandemic.
