A letter from the seniors of women’s basketball
February 23, 2020
Four women’s basketball seniors played in D.L. Ligon Coliseum for the last time Saturday, Feb. 22 against Oklahoma Christian. The seniors have all been a huge part of the basketball program and will be missed. Each senior sent in a personal letter about what being a part of MSU basketball meant to them.

Dear MSU basketball,
I cannot thank you enough for everything that has taken place over these past five years. God has truly blessed and changed my life from every professor, teammate, coach, booster and student I’ve met. It has been a dream come true. I’ll be honest and say dreams sometimes carry more weight and plot twists than first imagined… but I could never trade away my time here for someplace else. I hate goodbyes and the thought of retiring from the sport I love was light-years away. Yet, only a few weeks remain for this chapter in my story. The Dome will always have a place in my heart; it is the greatest gym in our conference when you soak in the atmosphere. I decided to come back one last year and fight alongside Coach J with my teammates, spending one final season with those who are dear to me. I am so grateful for it all. Getting to wear MSU across my chest has been such an honor, and it will be extremely difficult in the days ahead to never put on that jersey again. However, my body has taken a toll and injuries have already started to affect my health. So whether I like it or not, it’s time. When it’s finally over, I will miss shooting in an empty gym and all the people I met through this beautiful game called basketball. This game will always be a part of me as it shaped so much of who I am. Thank you basketball. Thank you, Midwestern. Thank you, Coach J and Coach Reay. Thank you, Mom, Dad and my brothers. Thank you, teammates. Thank you, athletic trainers. Thank you, strength coaches. And most of all thank you, Jesus. I hope I honored you all and fulfilled my purpose.

Dear MSU basketball,
Thank you MSU women’s basketball for everything. Thank you for five amazing years. Thank you for putting such strong, inspirational and motivating coaches in my life. I want to thank you for introducing me to some amazing girls and teammates who I will forever call some of my life long friends. Thank you for a program that taught me so much more than just how to be a great player but also a great person. Although it wasn’t always easy waking up early, practicing long hours or running so many 32’s I couldn’t feel my legs…the memories and experiences I have had here in this program are priceless and will always hold such a special place in my heart. Thank you MSU Women’s basketball. #forcoachJ

Dear MSU basketball,
I’d like to thank Coach J and Coach Reay for the opportunity to come here and put on the uniform. I had two seasons that didn’t go as I expected, but I will be forever grateful for those 18 games. I had the opportunity to play alongside girls that will now always be considered family. MSU, thank you for teaching me life lessons about work ethic and communication.

Dear MSU basketball,
MSU basketball is a family and a sisterhood you can never forget. These girls are family for life, and you can never forget the people who went on this journey with you. We have a different story this year, with Coach J being diagnosed with cancer, but it has only brought us that much closer and made this year that much more memorable. Thank you to everyone who has made the past four years something to always remember.
