Friday night, Nov. 12, armed University Police arrived at Legacy Hall, closed the fourth floor off to students and searched the building. This was in response to a report by a Legacy Hall resident that an unknown student stated there was a weapon within the building. The police conducted a sweep of the building and determined there was no weapons present. Additional witness interviews concluded there was no weapon.
Later that night at 11:26 pm, Kristi Schulte, director of Residence Life and Housing, sent out an email relaying the information of the situation. The email also reassured students of the importance of their safety to the Office of Residence Life & Housing.
“The safety of all residents is of upmost importance. We commend the student who thought quickly and notified staff of a potential risk. We encourage all students to remain aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious behavior to a member of the Residence Life & Housing team or to University Police,” Schulte said.
The email ended with the contact information of Jefferson Clemmons, Legacy Hall director, for students who have any further questions.
