“I didn’t expect to have as much fun at the volleyball tournaments I did. Since we are a part of the Cultural Greek Council we don’t interact with the other councils as much, so this was different. It was a good different though. I met some new people and played on a team with people I never thought I would,” Michael Gonzales, criminal justice and Omega Delta Phi junior, said.
Each team started in the pool play and the number of wins they made at the end determined if they would be put into the Gold or Silver Bracket. Team Gamma won the Gold Bracket and Team Chi won the Silver Bracket.
“I hadn’t played volleyball in a while, so to be out there with different Greeks felt amazing,” Melanie Garcia, exercise physiology and Gamma Phi Beta senior.
Each team consisted of six members from different fraternities and sororities. Members who weren’t on a team showed up to watch.
“I didn’t play, but it was so much fun to be there watching and cheering on Team Sigma. Team Sigma was Sigma Kappa, Kappa Sigma, and Sigma Nu. We hang out with Kappa Sigma all the time, but it was nice to be teamed up with Sigma Nu because it doesn’t happen often,” Taylor Adcock education and Sigma Kappa sophomore said.
The volleyball tournament was one of the athletic events during Greek Week. On April 12, the Greeks will be hosting the Greek Olympics as the last athletic event.
Greek Week will continue until April 13 ending with the Greek Awards.
“The Greek Awards will be fun. Everybody will be dressed nice. We get to see everyone receive their awards and it is just nice to see the Greeks on campus in the same room,” Gonzales said.
