Theater students took the audience by surprise at the Luna Gale play

Luna Gale, By Rebecca Gilman, is a play which questions who is capable of raising a child? A veteran social worker, Caroline, does whatever she can to protect baby Luna Gale. However, her mission is swayed with hidden motives that are buried in secrets and moral ambiguity. 

The seven cast members of the play practiced for Six weeks to leave the audience in awe at the end.

The crowd chuckled as the characters used obscured language  during the Luna Gale play, by Rebecca Gilman. The half filled theater echoed the sounds of the voices of the characters as the play went on, while the main characters ruled the stage through the dramatic script. Dressed in casual attire, the audience responded to the play through different sounds  during different situations that  occurred.  As the lights on the stage dimmed over the characters in the last scene, the audience applauded  in satisfactory.

“Being that I am a social worker I would understand the conflict the characters are going through, because they are trying to satisfy both parties,” Stephanie Omeodu, social work senior, said.

According to Omeodu, the play triggered many emotions inside of her which made her understand why the character playing the social worker had such a tough decision to make. Omeodu expressed that she understands how emotions can get in the way but, at end of the day the decision the judge makes stands, which she found helpful to her field of study.

“I went to some plays in high school, but this is my first one in college,” Sean Phillips, general business, freshman,said, noting that he came to get extra credit.

“I saw the posters on the walls around Fain and this peeked my interest because I like to watch plays,” Paytan Stubbs, biology senior, said.

Stubbs said she believed that the play had been well rehearsed and flowed nicely when switching different scenes.

“I was not lost at any point and the ending was unexpected,” Brian Blair, mechanical engineer, senior, said.

Blair said that he felt engaged in the play and nothing could distract him and the unexpected ending snapped him back to reality as it left him in awe.
