There are a lot of Homecoming traditions, one of which is the Cardboard Boat Race. The Cardboard Boat race is just that, a boat race.
Teams of people from different student organizations construct a boat made of nothing more than cardboard and duct tape that will have to carry them across Sikes Lake and back again. Johnson Ho, senior in nursing, is participating with some of the men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and some of the women of Chi Omega.
Teams have been working on their boast for days planning on who will be in each prospective boat and how they will be made.
“It will have taken us about four days to complete our boat and it took us even longer to plan it all out,” Ho said. “It is a long tradition, and we want to support all of the festivities on campus and promote school spirit.”
While most of the boats don’t even make it half way, Ho said he is optimistic about about his.
“I hope our boat will make it there and back but I’m confident that we will at least make it half way,” Ho said.
The race will be held this Friday Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. at Sikes Lake
